Warm up for Games Day, which falls on December 20 every year. Video games, live games, card games, board games, mobile games, trivia games — everybody loves games! With good reason, too; games are a fun way to bust some stress. And that is just one of the many ways they are good for us.After all, games sharpen our problem-solving abilities, our goal-focused strategies, focus and concentration, coordination and communication skills, social interaction, and multi-tasking. They can also be a motivating way to learn, and also give us a better understanding of different cultures. So how did an official day to pay respect to games come along?Originally, Games Day was the name of an annual gaming convention that first took place in 1975. Sponsored by the British game production company Games Workshop, the convention takes place in Birmingham in the U.K. In 1975 itself, a games convention in August got canceled, so Games Workshop decided to fill in the gap by having its own convention.Such an event, naturally, contributed to the growth of the gaming scene in the U.K. Soon enough, such conventions showed up all over the U.S. and became very popular, as they were the best platforms to showcase both gamers and gaming companies. Now that you know where the tradition came from, surely the best way to honor this day is to play some games!

Games Day is a yearly run gaming convention sponsored by Games Workshop. It was started in 1975, after another games convention scheduled for August that year cancelled. Games Workshop decided to fill the resulting gap by running a gaming day of their own. As a result, after some delays, the first Games Day was held at Seymour Hall, London on 20 December 1975.Following this successful start, and encouraged by mainstream media coverage, the second Games Day was held at a different venue, Chelsea Town Hall, London, on 12 February 1977. The event was somewhat delayed, owing to the logistics of running a rapidly expanding business. It followed rapidly by a separate "D&D Day" at Fulham Town Hall on 12 March, this being their core funding stream at that time. Today the Games Day convention is held regularly in the United Kingdom at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. It draws enthusiasts of Games Workshop's three main games (Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer, Lord of the Rings).Within the US, Games Days were held in Los Angeles, California; Baltimore, Maryland; Chicago, Illinois; and Atlanta, Georgia. In Canada, the venue was the Queen Elizabeth Building at Exhibition Place in Toronto, Ontario. In the Netherlands, two Games days were organised under the Name "Mega Gaming Day", the first on 21 November 1998 in Amersfoort at De Flint theatre and the 2nd on 13 November 1999 in Utrecht at de Jaarbeurs.
Days Gone developer Bend Studio confirms new PlayStation game
Despite having a rocky launch on PlayStation 4 in 2019 due to performance issues, struggling to keep up with the incredible number of freaker hordes on the screen, over time, Days Gone has become a game that is now viewed quite favourably by fans.Sure, the story is slow burn, but when its plot begins to unravel, it kept me hooked until its conclusion. What’s more, there aren’t many games that provide the level of tension like Days Gone when its protagonist, Deacon St.However, earlier this year, Days Gone Remastered arrived on PC and PlayStation 5, not only giving the game a 4K and framerate boost, but its visuals were also improved with new lighting and shadow effects, foliage in the environment, as well as new modes and more. Some fans hoped that the release of Days Gone Remastered was Sony testing the waters to gauge whether there was enough interest in a sequel. But while we wait to see if that concept comes to fruition, as reported by TweakTown, Bend Studio has confirmed that its next game is in the works.
Two of the three Christmas Day games will stream on Netflix, with the third as part of Amazon Prime's "Thursday Night Football" package.
The NFL will air three games on Christmas Day in 2025, the first two streaming on Netflix and the third as part of Amazon Prime’s “Thursday Night Football” package (the holiday falls on a Thursday), an industry source confirmed Tuesday.Netflix landed a three-season deal for exclusive NFL Christmas Day rights last May. The streamer debuted its live NFL programming on Christmas Day 2024 with two games: the Kansas City Chiefs versus the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens versus the Houston Texans.Last year’s Christmas Day Ravens-Texans game averaged 24.3 million viewers, while the Chiefs-Steelers game drew 24.1 million viewers across Netflix and local CBS stations in the participating markets, per Nielsen. A Beyonce halftime show during the Ravens-Texans game averaged 27 million viewers. This streaming triple-header on Christmas Day is something you should pay attention to as a sports fan because Netflix being any kind of player for upcoming live sports rights will change the landscape of sports consumption and cause consternation for the traditional linear powers given its financial might. Last year, the NFL’s viewership for Netflix’s Christmas Day games was below what linear TV delivered on Christmas in 2023 but still averaged 26.5 million U.S.

The WNBA’s Golden State Valkyries are having the Bay Area see violet, with bold looks and a Sephora-backed fashion show celebrating women’s sports.
The sartorial tributes carry outside of Thrive City, too. Over at the LGBTQ women’s sports bar Rikki’s in the Castro — the first of its kind in the neighborhood — lines are usually out the door on Valkyries game days. What inspired your fan style?: I’m wearing a Valkyries Juneteenth T-shirt. It’s starting to feel like I wear something Valkyries not just on game days, but every other day. The Valkyries and (soccer team) Bay FC have really great merch that has become a signal that you’re a part of the community.Games attended: Ten. How big of a fan are you?: I have long been a basketball fan. I have season tickets to the Warriors, and when they announced the WNBA expansion, the first day I made a deposit. I was super excited about the WNBA coming to the bay. I’m all in for the Valkyries.I still remember the first game I went to in New York City versus the Liberty. What inspired your look?: It’s lightweight, athletic, a good pop of color. These Jordans were my birthday present. I’m a mix of sporty and boho. What’s the vibe?: The love for the team feels like back in the day when the Warriors were in Oakland.
Enter a world of endless fun and adventure where strategy, skill, and luck come together in thrilling challenges and exciting competition.
Although the convention itself related to Games Day takes place in Birmingham, UK, this does not mean you cannot get involved if you live elsewhere. After all, the best way to honor the day is by playing some games, right? When was the last time you sat down with your friends or family for an evening of carefree fun? If you can’t even really remember, that means it is time to do just that, and Games Day is the perfect occasion.Remember that every person is different, and will therefore be good at something else—the same person who can’t maneuver an Xbox controller to save his or her life may well be astoundingly good at Scrabble, etc. In short, make sure there’s something for everyone at your Games Day party. If you should want to make things even more interesting, you could try organizing a vintage version of Games Day and have several of your guests bring over a 1985 Nintendo or an older version of Trivial Pursuit.
